IZMIR FESTIVAL TAKES OFF HIGH with PHILHARMONIA, SALONEN & ONAY
Pianist Gulsin Onay plays with the Philharmonia and maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen on Monday night to launch the International Izmir Festival’s 25th edition.
Turkey’s charming city of Izmir will be hosting one of the major events on the country’s cultural agenda this season when pianist Gulsin Onay meets the Philharmonia and maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen at the opening concert of the International Izmir Festival.
Enjoying a career spanning over 65 countries in 5 continents, Gulsin Onay has played with such British orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Northern Sinfonia and this will be her first collaboration with the Philharmonia.
Ms. Onay will perform Ulvi Cemal Erkin’s Piano Concerto, which she recently recorded with maestro Jose Serebrier. This most-anticipated concert will also feature Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
The 25th International Izmir Festival opening concert is on June 20th, Monday at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Centre.
