PIANIST OF THE YEAR: GÜLSİN ONAY
Gülsin Onay was chosen “Pianist of the Year” in Donizetti 2011 Classical Music Awards, a major event in the classical music agenda of Turkey.
Donizetti 2011 Classical Music Awards were distributed at a magnificent ceremony, which drew Turkey’s most eminent artists together with a big crowd of music lovers at Rahmi Koç Museum in İstanbul, on Monday night (16 May).
The Andante Classical Music Magazine’s annual awards, renamed in this second edition in a tribute to the 19th century Italian composer Giuseppe Donizetti, were given in 25 categories. Winners were determined by a jury of 200 music professionals from a shortlist of nominees selected by a nine-member committee that included classical music critics and journalists.
Gülsin Onay won one of the night’s major awards, Pianist of the Year and her performance of Liszt’s Grande Paraphrase de la Marche de Donizetti marked the night’s grand finale.
The Turkish pianist is now in Malaga to play Saygun’s 1st concerto with the Malaga Philharmonic under the baton of Howard Griffiths on 20-21 May.
