GÜLSİN ONAY IN USA

Gulsin Onay’s concert season takes her across the Atlantic once more - this time to the United States. She will first perform at the Miami International Piano Festival and then at the New York Times Center, with a special emphasis on Chopin in her programmes.

Gulsin Onay returns to the Miami International Piano Festival, after her much acclaimed debut in 2008, where she was hailed as “a greatly gifted musician with a keenly polished technique and notable interpretive depth” (1). This year’s programme finds her plumbing the depths of Beethoven’s Sonata Op.27 No.2, as well as Bartok Sketches Op.9 and selections by Chopin.

Known for her artful interpretations of composers spanning the whole piano repertoire, including Mozart, Rachmaninov and Saygun, Gulsin Onay has been especially identified for her exceptional Chopin: “Her Chopin is not only strong and convincing, but holds very personal touches and distinctive.” (2). She will perform his monumental 3rd Sonata Op.58 as well as Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante Op.22, in which “as if eavesdropping, she exposes the secret tenderness and fragility of this virtuoso display work” (3).

After her festival appearance at the Amaturo Theater on March 8 Monday at 8 pm, Gulsin Onay will go to New York to give a recital in aid of the Turkish Women’s League of America, under the auspices of the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey.

Gulsin Onay’s New York recital brings together both Turkish and American music lovers at the most elegant setting of the Times Center. The already sold-out concert is on March 10 Wednesday at 7 pm.
