GÜLSİN ONAY RECEIVES TURKEY'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS MUSICAL AWARD

The Honorary Award Gold Medal of the Sevda-Cenap And Music Foundation for 2007 has been awarded to Gülsin Onay.

Sevda Cenap And Music Foundation, whose roots go back to the 1940s, is one of Turkey's most distinguished musical institutions. The foundation is responsible for many cultural and educational projects and activities, including the International Ankara Music Festival. Since 1989, SCA has honoured one individual each year with its Honorary Award Gold Medal for his or her great contributions to music in Turkey as an expression of gratitude of the Foundation and music lovers. The Executive Committee of the Foundation has awarded the 2007 prize to Gülsin Onay.

The Executive Committee, in approving the proposal of the Consultative Committee, announced:

"The 2007 Foundation Honorary Award Gold Medal is to be conferred to State Artist Pianist Gülsin Onay, who successfully represents and promotes our country both home and abroad, performs the works of Turkish composers with foreign orchestras and who hands on her knowledge to future generations through educational activities."

Gülsin Onay received her medal at a ceremony in Ankara on 4 December 2007. Following the presentation ceremony, Ms. Onay gave a recital.
