GÜLSİN ONAY RECEIVES HONORARY DEGREE FROM HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY

Hacettepe University have conferred an Honorary Doctorate on pianist Gülsin Onay. Ms. Onay received her degree at a ceremony held on 25 September 2007 at Hacettepe University in Ankara.

According to the decision of the Hacettepe University Senate, accepting the proposal of the State Conservatoire Board with unanimous approval:

“For the innumerable concerts she gave both home and abroad; for her recordings; and for her great contributions in promoting the Turkish art and culture globally by performing Ahmed Adnan Saygun’s and other contemporary Turkish composers’ works in many cultural centres of the world, an Honorary Doctorate is conferred on the precious artist Gülsin Onay.”

Gülsin Onay, whose international career has spanned over 55 countries across all continents from Venezuela to Japan, was given the title of State Artist in 1987. She was given an Honorary Doctorate by the Bosphorus University in 1988. Ms. Onay was honoured by the Polish Nation with the award of a State Medal for her exceptional Chopin interpretations in January 2007.

Gülsin Onay received her degree at a ceremony held on 25 September 2007, Tuesday 16.00 at Beytepe Amphitheatre in Ankara. Following the ceremony Ms. Onay performed Chopin’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the Hacettepe Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Erol Erdinç.
