ONAY ENCHANTS PAKISTAN

Gülsin Onay gave a recital in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad which won the hearts and minds of the audience, and lavish praise from the national media. Her performance at the Turkish Embassy Cultural Centre was lauded by many, including Pakistani newspaper, Dawn, which wrote: “Turkish pianist enchants city audience.”

Gülsin Onay`s performance on October 25 was held to commemorate the Centenary of Ahmed Adnan Saygun. It was attended by classical music lovers, diplomats and Pakistani authorities.

At a reception following the performance, everyone thanked Ambassador Engin Soysal and Gülsin Onay, and expressed their gratitude for such a renowned artist to perform in Islamabad.

Dawn: “Turkish pianist enchants city audience”
Gülsin Onay’s recital figured largely in the Pakistani press. Dawn newspaper announced: “Turkish pianist enchants city audience”. The review said: “Her performances are passionate. She seems totally immersed in her music and her whole being is involved in the melody. The movements on the keys translate down to a kind of physical expression as if her music, the pianoforte and herself were one being.”

The News underlined the concert as “A brilliant Turkish Recital!” The review, also reciting the reactions of the audience, added it was the first time had such an amazing recital had taken place in Islamabad.

Ahmed Adnan Saygun makes his debut in Pakistan with Gülsin Onay
Having performed her teacher Saygun’s works in numerous countries, Gülsin Onay this time introduced the composer to Pakistani music lovers. Dawn newspaper said, “Saygun’s music seemed to captivate the audience with the first few introductory minutes. The audience sat mesmerised although Saygun’s music was new for many.”

Gülsin Onay also performed works by Schumann, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Ravel in her programme.

With the recital, Pakistan became the 57th country that Gülsin Onay has performed in.
